Firefox Quantum is Mozilla’s new web browser which is said to be faster, more stable and have an overall much better user experience for users than previous versions of Firefox.
But first, what is a Web Browser?
A web browser is a program or application on your computers, tablet, laptop or phone which is used to access websites, such as the one you are reading this now.
The main web browsers available are Apple’s Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft’s Edge or Internet Explorer or Mozilla’s Firefox series which has just gone through a major change.
The earliest version of a Web Browser was WorldWideWeb later named Nexus back in the 1990 which was very basic. But modern web browsers have progressed a lot from being able to view a website to now watching a movie, controlling another computer orĀ being the computer itself.
About Firefox
Firefox is Mozilla’s flagship web browser which has been around 2002 and revolutionised web browsers; totally taking them to the next level.
When Firefox was released the big player on the market was Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6. Firefox quickly challenged Internet Explorer as it was able to excel in speeds, security and stability.
But the main reason Mozilla Firefox quickly became a Web Browser powerhouse was its ability to easily integrate addons – something Microsoft Internet Explorer was unable to unwilling to do.
An add-on or plugin is a little bit of software or computer code you can add to an existing software package which would give it greater capabilities.
Also, Mozilla’s Firefox is open source and claims to have very different motives for making a web browser compared to Google and Microsoft.
Firefox Quantum
Faster – The new Firefox Quantum not only makes web browsing faster, bit also runs faster on your computer, and starts up a lot quicker also.
Search – For the past 3 years Firefox has been using Yahoo has its default search engine. Yahoo has never had a great reputation for Australian search results so it has been a welcomed upgrade the new Firefox Quantum uses Google as it’s default Search Engine.
Interface – Mozilla has done their research and given people what they want such as, a separate search box at the top of the page, a faster loading interface and recommended tending stories and frequented sites in the middle of the page. The whole browsers looks a lot less cluttered and much sleeker than previous versions.
Memory Usage – Firefox Quantum uses less memory which means not only does it load quicker, it also helps the rest of your system not get bogged down – this is particularly better for older systems also.
