    Awesome Browser Extensions

    What are Browser Extensions

Your web browser is the program and application you use on your computer like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer to surf the internet and read websites such as this one.

The programs come with heaps of functionality to do the things most developers think you want to do.

Google Chrome for instance incorporates its search and websites address fields all into one so you do not have to click in the search field and Opera has its own completely free VPN (Virtual Private Network) feature to mask your identity when you surf online.

Most Web Browser developers do a great job of finding out what most people want, but everyone is different has has different needs and interested in different features, they simply cant do everything for everyone.

This is where extensions or plug-ins come in.

Third party developers, or simply interested people, make their own features which can be added on to your particular web browser, which extends the capabilities of your web browser which you can download and add-on very easily, call extensions.

There are millions of different extensions out there; a quick search can probably find you want you need. But, these are some very popular extensions I and a lot of other people use which make life better surfing the net.

    Data Saver (Chrome)

Data saver is good for people who have limited internet, maybe using their phone hotspot etc and dont have big data limits.

How it basically works is Google will compress the data in advance for the websites which you are using and compress it down so it is smaller, resulting in you using less data.

    Mail Tag (Chrome)

Mail Tag is a useful browser extension for people who use Google Gmail which is a free email service made by Google which in itself is packed with features.

Mail Tag allows you to not only access and use your email directly from a link in your Chrome browser, but also gives you the ability to do a lot of extras like track who has opened your emails, and email follow up porcesses.

There is one draw back though. With the free version your emails are water tagged (most people dont care).

If you are using it for business though you might want ti upgrade to the professional paid version and remove the watermark.

    Last Pass – Multiple

Last pass works on multiple browsers and is one of the best password management programs going.

You don’t actually have to install any software as it is all in the cloud and just the extension is needed. If you have multiple devices including phones and tablets, when you save one password for one site it syncs with all the others you have installed without the intervention of a cloud application like Goolge Drive or Dropbox.

Last Pass is free for basic use which is more than enough for money people.

    Marker.io (Firefox)

Marker IO is the best screen capture app for just about any browser and works effortlessly.

You can take a screen shot of any website, part of a website and see what it looks like on different browsers.

This is particularly useful for web developers who need to see what their sites look like on different sized screens, platforms, operating system etc.

    Conclusion

The good thing about Addons/Extensions are they are usually browser based, not computer or operating system which means they pretty much work on any computer, as long as you are using the browser they are designed for.

The options are limitless and someone is always coming up with something new.

A word of warning: Be careful where you get your extensions. Google and Firefox Libraries a generally very safe sources. But, there are a lot of people trying to sneak viruses onto your computer under the guise of pretending to help you. Be careful.
