Hardware Problems

Your computer is made up of physical hardware components, like your hard drive, central processing unit, memory and motherboard.

The way these hardware components talk to your operating system is through little computer programs called drivers.

Drivers are often updated through Windows updates and if there is a problem with your hardware or one of the drivers, it can effect your Windows update and Windows installation.

Most of the time this just results in one of these hardware components not running great, but still working, just a lot slower.

However, if it is a driver for the motherboard chipset it can result in your computer not starting up.

For the most part, when an update is incomplete the computer will roll back to its original point in time and continue using as normal.

If that’s the case Windows will need to be installed again and if it is too catastrophic; you might loose your data on the hard drive if it is not backed up.

Sometimes Windows updates can take a long time, even a couple of hours. When this happens people can unknowingly turn their computer back on when the update is still running and hlat it making the system unstable.

Always let the Windows update completely finish before turning your computer or laptop off or back on again.
