    Opera Neon Concept Browser

Your web browser is the program you are using right now, most likely Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

It is the application you use to access websites on the internet like Townsville Nerds.

Originally web browsers were only designed to do a couple of things like display text. Gradually they improved adding media such as Music, video and pictures and since then they have matured a lot to do just about everything.

Programmers are designers are always looking for new way to improve on design and come up with new and innovative features.

Opera Neon is a concept browser and can be downloaded here.

    What is a Concept Browser

The Opera Neon Browser is only a concept. That is, current it is used to basically get a feel for what people are interested and know where to go from there.

They do this by introducing new features. Some will be subtle and other will be way out there. This will give the designers an idea what people might be interested in the future and is great for feedback and ideas.

    Opera Neon Browser Features

Task Manager – Your Windows computer has a task manager which you can use to close and open programs and see what processes are running in the background and how much recourse they are using.

Neon comes with its own task manger and you will be able to see how much memory and CPU your applications are using.

Split Screen – This feature is just like on your mobile phone when you want to do two different things at once and see them on your scree.

With split screen in Neon you will be able to browse to different websites at the same time and see them right in front of you on the same screen.

Inspect Element – Nothing really new there but a lot of people might not know it.

Most designers who work on websites use inspect element to see what is going in the the background of any website. This is especially helpful for arranging formatting and how a websites looks and acts.

Video Popup – Much like the Facebook video players which jumps out when you click on it and plays to the side while you still are viewing your Facebook feeds and wall.

This works the same in Neon and you can keep browsing while your video is playing on the screen for you to see at the same time.

    Pros

Open Tabs on the right hand side of the page was a nice feature.

Most web browsers place their tabs across the top of the screen. Having them on the right hand side was very intuitive and surprising easy to use and find what I already had open.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this feature will be adopted to other browsers and we see a lot more of it in the future.

    Cons

I found it very slow on all the different computers I tried it on.  First I thought it was my laptop. But after installing it on multiple computers, it ran much slower the Google Chrome where ever I used it.

Although I like the browser a lot, it is still a concept browser and I don’t think it’s quite ready yet to replace your current browser.
