Windows 7 Operating System has been the most widely accepted, much loved, best to use by most peoples admissions Microsoft Operating System to date. In fact, until recently there were still more installations of Windows 7 than the was Windows 10.
But as of 14th of January 2020, Microsoft will stop releasing updates to all Windows 7 users except for Windows Enterprise and Pro Additions who can take advantage of ESU (Extended Security Updates) – but for most people, we will stop receiving updates.
What Updates Will Stop Being Released
Features Updates
Feature updates are usually rolled out every 6 months. They are major updates to the Windows operating system and usually add more features, visual improvements and overall usability and performance upgrades.
Bug Fixes
Bug fixes are improvements on the operating system itself. As they roll out updates they are now always perfected and users through feed back let the developers know any problems or areas which can be improved.
Security Updates
There are always new threats to computers every day. But the operating system itself might have vulnerabilities other than viruses and security updates can help plug these holes.
Can I Still Use Windows 7
Yes, you can still use your Windows 7 computer and operating system well after the updates have stopped being issued.
You will still be able to use the computer and its not the end of the world not getting feature updates. But, because there will no longer be any bug features and security updates and because things change very dramatically and quickly on the internet, you could be a sitting duck.
Upgrading to Windows 10
Microsoft have made it quite easy to upgrade to Windows 10.
For a lot of Windows users who previously bough Windows 7 their are free upgrades using the same serial key and for those who have to buy it they are practically giving it away. Even to people who have previously put Windows 8 on their computer illegally are reporting they have been giving a free upgrade to Windows 10.
