Common Mistakes When Building a Computer – Part 3

    common computer setup problems

    Buying Incompatible Parts

It very easy with all the excitement to buy the wrong parts for you new build.

Not all CPU’s will work with all computers and motherboards and not all RAM (memory) will either. When buying computer parts to build your own computer it’s very important to research what components will work together.

Currently Townsville Nerds does nit build computers, but it is always good practice if you are not sure to buy all major components from the same retail outlet, as when you are buying them you can ask your sales person if they will work together and if there is a problem when you get it home, can always bring it back and ask them as discussed.

Cheap Brands You Have Never Heard Of

Everyone likes a bargain. And with things like RAM being so expensive now and hard drives so cheap it can be really easy to go with products at a budget you have never heard of before or bought from some obscure place overseas, you never have a chance of getting your money back from.

You get what you pay for. Not only can faulty parts obviously not work when you get them or install them, they can also under perform the rest of your computer or damage existing parts. Again, you get what you pay for!

    Installing the Processor Wrong

The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is one of the most important and expensive parts of your computer.

Not only are the quite small, they are also very sensitive to all types of things like heat, electricity, bumps and knocks etc.

There are many different CPUs out there which run at different speeds and fit different sockets in different motherboards. Not only that, even sometimes putting a CPU in the correct motherboard can be difficult and annoying. You have to get everything right.

Most CPU’s will only fit in the correct slow on a motherboard specifically designed for it. But people still put them in wrong and damage them by trying to make them fit.

You must look carefully for the correct notches missing on the CPU to fit specifically to the correct motherboard like a jigsaw puzzle.

Not Having A Clean Work Space

Having a clean work space is very important. It is very easy to grab the wrong screw or misplace something and put it in the wrong part of the computer if you have it mixed up – a lot of things look exactly the same but can have small differences and big consequences.

Also, you don’t want dirt and dust being sucked in and covering your brand new components.

I know it seems obvious, but we have seen new custom builds look like they are years old, covered in dust and running slow and overheating.
