When we think of computer virus and hackers we automatically think of some antisocial type personality, sitting in their basement, hacking away.

I don’t think its really like that anymore.

It seems more people are interested in scamming you and making money, over destroying your computer.

The people aren’t the antisocial type, but well organised crime groups who are targeting innocent Australian people and our money.

A lot of people don’t even know they have been ripped off, nor targeted, until they see money actually go missing from their bank accounts, or the bank has called and informed them their bank account has been compromised, so they need to get their computer looked at before it can be reinstated.

Why does your bank want you to get your site looked at

Banks want you to have your computer looked at because of Spyware.

Spyware is a form of virus which spies on you, rather than hurt your computer.

Spyware can watch the websites you go to, and if that is banking also look at the keys you press to get your password.

Once they are in the try to attempt to more money from your bank account to another.

Also, if you use your credit card on your computer, if there is Spyware on there, it is possible for someone to see you using it and use it themselves to buy items online.

In countries where there it little to no law enforcement, I guess the banks know they are not going to catch them and get the money back, so it is better to minimise the problem by having your computer check to further reduce losses.
