A customer asked me today, what is SSH and should they be using it.
SSH stands for Secure Shell or Secure Socket Shell and is a secure network protocol for clients to talk to severs over networks such as the internet without anyone else intercepting or interpreting their communications – it is a very secure way to communicate online.
The internet is open, which means anyone with a little know how can see broadcasts of signals and communications.
Some of the times this is ok, but most it is better to use a secure communication protocol like SSH.
SSH is the preferred network security protocol of most network administrators and is a cornerstone Linux Shell communication is built on when when talking to a server.
SSH relies on public key pairs to authenticate hosts, you can also use your username and password.
