Everyone has heard of, most of us use it, but what exactly is the buss with all this social media going around?
Although Social Media is not specific to computers or laptops, and can be accessed by pretty much any internet connected device like mobile phone, tablet and smart watch, it still gets bought up a lot and a lot of my customers ask what it is?
This post will endeavour to answer a few of the questions I get asked, and explain the differences between all the Social Media company’s out there.
What is Social Media
Social Media is as website or application use primarily to connect with other people, business and groups.
Anyone can have a social networking account, from private people, business’s organisations, to countries and even your pets.
Social Media makes it so much easier to contact someone either through existing friends and search, or to contact a business you might be looking for.
Lots of businesses use Social Media to communicate with their customers, promote their products and services and gain feed back about their services.
Even dating websites can be considered social networking and media.
Different Social Media Platforms
Right now Facebook is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the social media and networking world.
In the 12 years Facebook has been around it now has approximately 1.6 billion active monthly users including 1 million business which use the platform for advertise and communicate with their customers.
Users must have a valid email to join and be 13 years old and above.
Initially the website was designed for college students but quickly spread to become a world wild house hold name. The Facebook site is used to connect with people and friends and share media files such as music, video and pictures.
You can also instant message your friends on Facebook and even after you have passed away, friends and family can request you have a memorial type of account so people can still visit you.
Unlike Facebook, where you can pretty much share most of your life; Twitter is consider more of a micro-blogging platform.
Instead Twitter allows you to broadcast short 140 character messages other people will find interesting and useful.
Like Facebook, people can follow you and vise versa and has approximately 317 million active monthly users.
Linked In
The biggest difference between Linked In the other two Social Networking platforms is Linked In is entirely focused on your business or career.
Considered the worlds most largest professional network for approximately 400 million people, most join to find jobs or employees or further their professional career.
If you want to network at the professional level, Linked In should be your first and only choice.
