PC Keyboard and Mouse on Mac Computer

Using a Windows Keyboard on Macbook or apple imac

Did you know you do . not have to use your Apple Mac specific keyboard on your Imac or Macbook Computer.

Keyboards die for all sorts of reasons. For the most part USB keyboards are not very expensive. You can get decent USB keyboards with no brand name from Kmart for under $10.

All the Apple computer equipment has a reputation for being more premium and of course more expensive and this also includes the Apple Keyboards and Mouse.

But, yes you can use a Windows PC USB keyboard in your Mac computer which will work just as good.

You might have trouble with the wireless ones, but the actual USB keyboard will work quite easy. Its just a matter of plugging it in.

    How Apple Keyboards are different

Your really not going to have a lot of problems using a PC keyboard in a Mac computer or laptop.

The only real difference is some of the keys used on an Apple computer have different names on a PC laptop.

    Different Keys on Keyboard

Mac Key – Control. On PC Keyboard – Ctrl

Mac Key – Option. On PC Keyboard – Alt

Mac Key – Command. On PC Keyboard – Windows

Mac Key – Delete. On PC Keyboard – Backspace

Mac Key – Return. On PC Keyboard – Enter

Non Apple Mouse on Apple Computer

The same goes for you using a mouse on your Apple Macbook or Imac computer.

Just about any USB mouse will work. Sometimes the wireless ones are also hit and mix, but all the ones over the years I have tried with a USB cables plugged directly into the Apple computer will.

You can buy a wired Optical Mouse from K-Mart for $4.

    Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Trying to add a wireless keyboard and mouse using the built in features of the Mac computer is futile.

You are much better off buying a Wireless Mouse and keyboard kit which comes with the USB dongles you plug into the back of the computer.

Again its always hit and miss but a much better alternative.
