    Opera Browser Free VPN

    townsville geeks

    What is Opera

Opera is a very old (in terms of internet) web browser which a lot of people started using back in the mid 90’s.

I never personally started using it until about 1997, but i use to really like it because at the time it was really innovative and cutting edge.

Over the years Opera got left behind in a lot of respects even though they were respsonsible for developing web browser features such as pop-up blocking and proivate browsing sesstions which we only saw in later years in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

    What is a VPN

V.P.N. stands for Virtual Private Networking and is a feature used by a of of internet users to hide the online activity.

When using a VPN, you connect to a VPN server and all you online activinty (to a degree) appears you are using their network, rather your homes, internet service providers, work or institution.

    Opera and VPN

Opera have implemented a VPN feature in it web browser which means you can surf the internet using their web browser anonymously.

Do note this VPN feature is not a VPN for your whole computer and web browsing activity. This will only work for what you are doing in the Opera web browser and only while it is enabled.

An example is if you are using utorrent and opera vpn. All your web browsing through Opera will be hidden but not your Utorrent activity.

This is different from a full VPN service which will hide all internet activity.

    How to use Opera VPN

First you must downloaded the latest version of Opera from, www.opera.com.

Once you have downloaded the program and installed it, go to:

    1. Go to Settings, or Preferences if you are on a Apple Mac Computer.
    2. Select Privacy and Security.
    3. Then select the VPN label.

How do I know its working

Before you turn on the VPN feature in Opera, go to www.whatismyipaddress.com.

This will and should display your real IP address and give you a location relative to where you are.

After you have enabled the VPN feature, go to the same address and refresh the page.

If it give you an address which is different and in some other part of the work, you know you a using the VPN fearure exit point correctly and all traffic using Opera for that session will appear you are somewhere else.

NOTE: For real privacy, no matter what I would always use a website with https. People may be able to see what website you go to when ussing https, but they will not be able to see what you are doing.
