I can, but should I upgrade my Operating System?

Windows 10 help TownsvilleWhen a new Operating System comes out, everyone is quick to think it must be the best because it is the latest and greatest.

Most times after a little use people end up realising it wasn’t a whole lot different than the old. New operating systems like Windows 10 will always have if not completely new, some different features.

Of course there are always teething problems. But not until a operating system hits critical mass, people from all walks of life, from all around the world using different features, do we really see the ins and outs, what works and what doesn’t, and how well a new operating system behaves.

Just because there is a new operating system, and just because we can; doe’t it mean we should use the latest operating system.

This post will look at some of the common questions and problems when upgrading to Windows 10.

    Windows 10 Security

Windows 10 security is much better than earlier versions of Windows and maybe marginally better than Windows 8. Windows 8 gave us secure boot which was a huge leap forward.

Some hardware manufactures regarding with Windows 10 went so far as stopping you disabling this feature altogether.

Either way you probably couldn’t go to far wrong with either Windows 8 or 10.

    Features

Windows 10 does have a lot more features than Windows 8.

But to be honest, nothing really ground breaking that would make me want to upgrade Windows 10 alone.

Some people like Cortana, the personal assistant. I personally have never used it, I guess I am a keyboard and mouse guy.

I also find Windows 10 more compatible with a few things I didn’t in Windows 8 which is a plus.

    Usability

I personally find Windows 10 a lot more easier to use than Windows 8. Lacking a genuine start bar for Windows 8 rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

The people spoke and Microsoft listened.

They still made it so you have access to typical start bar links, but also included some new stuff to make it easier to access their store etc.

Windows 10 have more of the Windows 7 design to it, with a splash of Windows 8.

    Performance for the Average User

This is the one which will divide a lot of people. I am only going by what I have seen, and what i mostly see are problems as the arise and customers call me to look at their computers.

I have personally found the Windows 10 operating system to be to heavy on older machines, specially computers which did not come with Windows 10.

Powerful machines with Solid State Drives and powerful graphics cards and CPU’s (Central Processing Units) handled the upgrade much better, but for the average user, on the average computer, there are just lots of people complaining there upgraded computer is to slow.

    Conclusion

I find Windows 10 to be marginally better than Windows 8. If my computer came with Windows 8 I would have serious thoughts about upgrading.

It’s going to come down to the individual and a big questions ask is. Are you willing to compromise between speed and latest features?
