You have probably heard of Apple computers and Apple phones, but did you know Apple make a streaming device called Apple TV.
Although Apple TV is not a television, it is a small device which plugs into your TV via a HDMI cable which works similar to a DVD player, without the disks and streams instead.
A few years back when computers were being used more as a media device and internet connections where becoming faster and more readily available, people where plugging their computers into their TV’s to stream Movies straight from the internet to their television sets.
This was all fine and well except the old computer was too big, too bulky and took up too much space; it didn’t look good sitting next to your TV.
So companies started making these media devices which would plug into your televisions and do what your computer was doing, just scaled down.
Enter Apple TV.
With Apple TV you don’t need a keyboard or mouse. All you need to do is plug it into your TV and use the small remote control which comes with it to set it up.
You can connect it to your internet via wifi or ethernet and then your pretty much ready to go.
Apple TV comes with a wide range of Native Apps such as Netflix. Once you have connected it to your TV and Internet all you need to do is click on the Netflix app using your remote control, enter your user name and password you already have with Netflix and you are on.
The faster your internet the better the picture quality. Any connection over 2mb will be good enough to at least watch a movie but with faster connections such as ADSL2 and NBN you will get a really HD quality picture.
Pro and Cons of Apple TV
Netflix is great because you no longer have to wait to watch the movie or series like you do on cable television networks.
If you want to watch a particular movie, or episode of a series, you simply choose hit and hit play. If you stop half way through you can just resume playing right where you left off down the track, Netflix will remember where you were at.
I really enjoy and like my Apple TV and it comes it very handy and easy to setup.
The only real problem I have with it is its inability to stream movies and pictures from LAN (Local Area Network). That is if I have a movie or something on one of my computers on my network, Apple TV wont be able to play it, unlike is competitor, The Roku.
Helpful Hint. If you do buy an Apple TV it comes with a great little remote control, but its very small.
So you can either sticky tape it to the back of your bigger TV remote control or you can program you TV remote to control the Apple TV as well.
This is a good option, because if you loose your Apple TV remote, you wont be able to program a new one without a lot of difficulty!
