    IPv6 and Android Wireless

Recently I updated my router. In fact I went from using my Apple Airport Extreme to using a custom made PFSense Linux Operating System instead of a standard router.

My PFsense router has IPv6 on as default. A lot of new routers supplied by your interest service provider will have this as well, even if your ISP doesn’t support it.

IPv6 is all good and well and my internet over NBN works just as good with IP4 but I left it enabled anyway. Everything was going well and fine and all my devices are working well on the new router except my Android Devices.

My Apples TV’s, Roku’s, Apple and Windows computers all work fine on the new router using IPv6. What I did notice was all my Androids phones and tablets such as my new Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge the wireless was very slow.

Traffic over the network was fine, but once i was using the WAN (Wide Area Network) there was either slow throughput or slow connection and lag wait time.

Apparently this is a huge problem with Android Wireless software and even though it has been widely talked about in forums over the past 5 years, Google has done very little to fix it.

In the end all I did was set my router back to IPv4 and everything went back to normal. If you having slow Android wireless as well, I suggest you do the same.

    What is IPv6

Computers or network devices use IP (Internet Protocol) address to talk over the internet.

They are similar to a house street address, suburb and city. Each network device gets its own network address which looks something like 203.41.282.10.

When the interest begun they didn’t know it would be as popular as it is and they thought there would be enough of these IP addresses to go around. But know they have run out.

So they come up with a whole new way of fixing the problem call IP version 6 which looks more like this, 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334 and has a lot more number to be allocated to users all around the work using the internet and world wide web.

    What is Android

Android is an operating system for mobile phones. Much like IOS on Apple Iphones and Apple Devices, Android is free and owned by Google now.

If its not a Iphone it is most likely an Android which runs on lots of different hardware manufactured devices like Sony and Samsung and their respected tablets.

Its impossible to tell how many Android devices are there but as of the end of 2015 the Android Operating System software runs on more than 24,000 types of devices, phones and tablets etc.
