Storing all your passwords with 1Password

Unless you are new to using the internet, you will find the more you use it and the more websites you interact with, the more passwords you will accumulate.

Having a login to a particular website like your bank or email is a security measure to make sure no one else uses your account. The only problem is the more accounts you have, the more passwords you have to remember.

It is very bad practice to have the same passwords for all your accounts. If one of your accounts are compromised and someone gets your password they can potentially access all your accounts.

So with all these websites and all these passwords, what is the best way to manager them?

1Password – Password Manager and Secure Wallet

After 20 years of using the internet I have exactly 1180 passwords to various websites. Everything from banking, emails, game related sites, school, work and general interests.

Having to type and remember all these passwords in every time I go to a website would take forever or almost be impossible. I probably would rather not go to them. But with 1Password it is effortless and I could’t use the web without it.

1Password is a program you install on your computer and store all your passwords into. For security reasons you should using a password to protect your 1password as well, which means all you really need to do is remember one password.

    Pros and Cons of 1Password

1Password can be used on your normal PC, laptop, desktop, Windows, Mac, Tablet, Android and Iphone. So no matter where you are access a website form you can have all your passwords.

The best part about this is if you are using a program like Dropbox you can share your !password passwords between devices.

They will sync across the platforms through Dropbox which means if you are using your computer and dave your password into 1Password for your Westpac Banking, when you fire up another computer with your Dropbox and 1Password installed on it you will have access to the same password and account details.

1Password also comes with a browser Plugin so you do not need to startup the application every time you want to use it.

When you go to a new site or existing one and want to put your login details in, all you need to do is click on the 1Password icon in your browser and it will automatically fill in the username and password form for you.

The only negative I have had with 1Password is sometimes (1 in 100 times) the password will not show up and I have to close my browser and open it again which is no biggy.

1password can be bought and download here.
