In a time where we are seeing any sort of device we use turning into a smart device and just when I thought I could no longer be surprised, I see something new.

Enter the smart light. Gone are the days when all a light bulb did was just turn on and off. Now we have options.

I know smart lights where not invented just yesterday and with so many new tech toys surfacing every week I sometimes miss things you would expect me to be right on but I am afraid I missed the launch of the Smart Light.

What is a Smart Light?

Put simply a smart light is a smart light. Smart light s are not only built for efficiency they are built to do a lot more with.

Normal lights are binary, they only have two options, on and off.

Smart lights can do a whole lot more by giving it instructions.

How do you think they get these instructions? You guessed it, most smart lights come with wifi, so you can talk to them over your wireless local area network or even over the internet!

Smart lights also have built in sensors and with the ability to feed them instructions most smart lights can change intensity, when they come on and off and under what conditions, and even colour.

Just say you are away from the house and decide you would like to turn your lights on outside fofr security, you can do that too. The options are limitless.

Interesting things to do with Smart Lights

Right now the best environments I have been able to find is the Philippines Hue Personal lighting.

Philippines have an app called Hue which you can use to connect to your lighting to do a wide range of functions.

Phillips Hue uses IFTTT (if this then that) which I will right more about later. But basically IFTTT.com is a website and service you can use to bring services together to get things done.

With IFTTT in conjunction with the Phillips Hue service you can do a wide range of things from telling your lights to change colour when the weather does, such as when it rains, to connecting it with Siri on your Iphone so you can talk to it and tell it what to do.

Other people have joined in and made their own recipes (what they are calling IFTTT functions).

I saw one the other day which connects to a sports service so every time you team scores when you are watching hr game it flickers the lights.
