    Recovering Data from Ransomware

    What is Ransomeware

Ransomeware is a new type of malicious software the last few years which does infect your computer but rather than trying to destroy your system so you can use it, spy on you to get details or just be a menace, Ransomware focussing on holding your files hostage until you pay them.

The big problem with this is, most of the time not only can your files not be released from the ransomware as they are totally destroyed, the criminals do to release them and end up using your credit card for a hot of other things.

    Data Recovery

Data Recovery is the process of recovering your files when the are lost or damaged.

Most of the time this means the media which is storing them has a problem, and the data needs to be taken of it and put somewhere like a USB drive or external hard drive for the user to access again.

    How Ransomeware Data Recovery Differs

Data Recovery from Ransomware is a little different. The actual data itself is literally no longer there or scrambled so bad, it can not be recovered. There is nothing to recover.

Even if the files have not been damaged and are just locked like the crimainals claim, they are protected by a system and encryption lock which would take your computer years to break.

They attacked files such as documents, Word and Excel files and photos; the stuff people care about and know a lot of people will pay to have released, which never happens.

    Ransomeware Protection

When it comes to Ransomware, the best way to combat it and the most effective is to be protected from it specifically before you get infected.

A good way is to save your files to OneDrive.

I am not a big fan of online storage but with Microsoft OneDrive are making a new feature which allows you to roll back your files up to 30 days.

Sp if all your files get infected over night tonight, if they are store in OneDrive, you can restore them to yesterdays state!

    Backup Yourself

I think backing up can pretty much fix just about every situation.

The more you backup the more instances you have where you can go back to, with the most relevant data.

Backing up does not even have to be complex. A simple once a week or however often you feel necessary of copying and pasting your data to a new directory on an external hard drive will do just fine incase you ever need to restore your data.

You can always put Windows back on to your computer, but you might not alawys be able to get your previous files back. Back up often.
