When you talk social networks there is a good chance Facebook is going to be bought up in the conversion. Its pretty fair consider half the planet pretty much uses it (don’t know the exact current figures).
But working with the public and going into peoples homes and businesses we speak to a lot of people in Townsville and learn a lot from the general public also. People from all ages and all walks have life give us invaluable information on a daily basis we like to pass onto our customer.
One of things we keep hearing about is lesser known social networks. I guess anything where people gather can be considered a social network. But until recently I didn’t realise so many new and and established ones exist.
I personally use many different social networks and would like to mention are few we see pop up more and more and what they do and how you can benefit from using them.
Meetup
Meetup is an online social network which connects people to offline, real life, group meetings.
If you have a group lets say who like to play ukuleles, and you are looking for new members, you can advertise your local ukulele group on meetup and other aspiring musicians or enthusiasts searching the meetup site in your area will see your add, contact details and join the group.
Meet up is also good if you are new to town or are travelling and you would like to meet people of similar interests.
The amount of groups fluctuate different times of the years but at the time of writing this post December 2019 there are about 56 local Townsville groups consisting of people who do Meditation and Healing, Women Weaving Wisdom to Foodies and Book Clubs.
Linked In
I didn’t really want to talk about the larger websites a lot of people are already using. However, LinkedIn is still not used by a lot of people who could benefit, and I think it’s very valuable and worth mentioning.
LinkedIn is a social network targets to professional people in order to network, find employment, find customers and connect business partners, companies etc.
Its not a social network for making friends, it is very business orientated. Although, the more people you already know the more helpful it will be, as you will soon notice friends adding you.
They great thinking about LinkIn is you can give recommendations for people based on work and performance and even to your bosses!
Foursquare Swarm
This social network app for your mobile device helps you track places you have been, including using images and making posts for others to see where you are and what you are doing.
On the surface this seems pretty straight forward, but their are countless ways people are using this for other reasons.
Not only can business appear in the check in location so i can be used as a business tool as well, you could also use it for security when you are travelling.
People can keep track of you, see where you are, or come looking for you if the need too.
