Adblockers – Best Way to Defend Against Viruses

Anyone who follows my blog will know I am not a great fan of antivirus programs. It’s just I see dozens of computers every month with viruses and they all have some sort of Anti-virus Malware type protection on them.

I don’t think they are anywhere as good as they should be and all my customers are certainly under the assumption they are completely safe with an antivirus program on their computer.

I am not saying, don’t use one. Just be aware they are better than nothing, but you can still easily get a virus or spyware on your computer if you have one.

    How a Viruses Getting in?

Pretty much every virus I see on customers computers have been acquired via the Internet. Viruses aren’t alive and don’t think.

It’s horrible telling people this, but pretty much all viruses I see, the customer has put on their computer themselves knowingly via a website or some sort of offer, movie, free music etc.

An example is you go to a web site about the news to watch a movie or clip.

You can’t see the clip, only a black box where the movie should be. You click on the clip and a little pop up or add appears and tells you to install a plug-in or bit of software to continue, which will help you watch the movie.

Surprise, there is no movie and your computer is infected with viruses, adware, malware spyware etc.

    Point of Entry

If the main point of entry is your interment connection and web browser, it makes sense that is where your first line of defence should be.

And knowing anti virus programs are not doing a good of job protecting us, you should probably rely on something else.

This is where Adblockers come in.

If people are getting tricked by these fake ads or instructions on websites, it makes more sense to protect or block these ads and take care of viruses before they even hit your computer. Prevention is better than a cure.

    What are Ad blockers?

Ad blockers are usually small little programs that run on your computer, laptop or mobile device and addon to your web browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.

What they try to do (I say try because they too are not 100%) is modify, block or change the website code when it loads onto your computer so you either get warned or block the add completely.

If the Ads are showing up on the website, and your not clicking onto them and not taken to bad websites with code designed to fool and infect you, you aren’t getting any or as many viruses.

Good Ad Blockers as of April 2017

Its hard to say which is the best; everyone will have the own opinion on this.

But currently at this time these are the highest voted Adblockers for the year.

Chrome – Adblock and Adblock Plus

    Firefox – Admuncher
