    Wireless Problems

Just about everybody uses wireless these days in their homes as do a lot of business around town in Townsville. Wireless is a great alternative to having to wire up your whole home or business with ethernet cable or have it prebuilt into your structure.

Rather, adding a wireless router or modem can easily allow most people to connect to your wireless network to share documents, access file and systems and use internet.

All you need is a wireless router, like the one that probably come when you signed up with an ISP (internet service provider) and a computer, laptop, tablet or phone which has a wireless adapter built in, most if not all do today.

In most cases the technology works with no effort, mess or fuss at all. Turn it on, look for a wireless network on your computer and enter your password and off you go.

But every now and again your wireless network does no show up in your list of available networks. Or you can see your network but can’t connect to it. So why has something that worked effortlessly before, suddenly stop working altogether?

    Common Wireless Problems

Although there is a limitless number of problems which can affect your wireless network usage, these are the three which I see the most in Townsville.

None of these are limited to homes, we see just as many problems in business and even more so in industrial areas.

    Can’t see wireless network

If you were able to see and connect to your wireless the day before and now suddenly can’t, there could be two possible reasons.

    1) Updates – Whether you did the updates yourself or your operating system decided to get some updates, making changes to your system.

Updates can and do include driver updates, such as the ones your wireless network card uses. Most of the times these updates are great and improve your device performance. But every now and again they fail and in doing so you might loose connection to your wireless network.

    2) Conflicting equipment – Other wireless network equipment can conflict with yours causing outages at certain times or total loss of local network connection.

It could be something your already using in your house, or a neighbour has bought some new transmitting device which is messing with yours. This can be a huge headache, within 3 metres of your routers in any direction can be a multitude of devices which could be interfering making it very hard to determine which one.

    Common Interent Problems over Wireless

    Slow connection

If your internet and LAN connection is slow from the start it could be a distance problem. Your wireless router can only transmit a certain distance and when you are too far away you can sometimes connect, but very slowly.

Moving closer to your router will solve this issue, the less walls and devices in between the better connection you will get.

    No internet connection at all

If you can connect to your wireless network and see your router, access lan services and other computer but have no internet it might not be your wireless at all that is the problem.

Simply restarting your router might fix this issue. If more than one computer or device is having theis problem and restarting your router does not fix the problem you should check to see if everything is plugged in correctly such as telephone lines, NBN cables etc.

If they are all plugged in correctly and no one is till able to access the internet you should call your interest service provider like Optus, Bigpond or Internode.

If you are the only one on the network which can not connect to the internet but can the wireless network it is very likely you might have something on your computer interfering with its useable like conflicting software, or virus, spyware or malware.
