    Windows 10 has been around for a while now and we can assume all this time a lot of the bugs will have sorted out.

    Although having the Windows 10 operating system on your computer or laptop is proving to have a lot of security benefits, we still seem to be having the constant problems we had a lot of in Windows 8.

    The big problem for a lot of people is the intense 100% or high disk usage Windows 10 computers seem to have. And even though a lot of the time it is not actually Windows 10’s fault, you can’t dent is simply slows a lot of Windows 10 computers down to a halt.

    So what can we do when Windows 10 computers run extremely slow, to the point we can barely use them.

    Safe Mode

    The first thing you should always do is start your computer in safe mode.

    This will not fix the problem but it will make it a lot easier to identify what type of problem you are having on your computer.

    If your computer runs a lot faster in safe mode it could be due to one of the programs executing at start up and using a lot of your hard drive when in use.

     

    Virus

    There is that work again which gets blamed for everything. It easy to blame the old computer virus for everything, but that would be a mistake.

    When you think about it, if a virus is trying to do something on your computer but decides to make your computer unusable, how can it achieve its goal?

    Not all slow hard drives are due to viruses and malware.

    Make sure you keep your antivirus up to date.

     

    Solid State Drive

    Some times hard drives just get and slower; just like people.

    If your computer is not new and you have upgraded from an earlier operating system like Windows 7 or 8 your hard drive might be slowing down.

    As operating systems and software evolves so does the stress it puts on your computer as it asks for more resources. An older hard drive might have trouble maintaining optimal use with Windows 10 and in turn show high hard drive usage as it plows away trying to keep up.

    A new hard drive might fix this problem or if you want Windows 10 to be at least 5 times faster a SSD (Solid State Drive) would definitely be a good choice.

    Solid State Drives are generally smaller than HDD’s (Hard Disk Drives) but due to no moving parts and much better technology are much faster.

     

    More Memory

    Your computer is probably setup so when it runs out of memory (not storage) it will start trying to substitute it with hard drive resources.

    I don’t like telling people to go out and buy more hardware, but sometimes more memory is needed to make your hard drive run better and less usage.

    You can change how bigger page file your computer allocates from your hard drive to substitute RAM, but it will always be slower and put more demand on your hard drive.

    Again Solid State drives handle this a lot better.
