    Computer tricks I use

Everyone has there own way of doing things to make life go faster. The more you use your computer you too will find ways to get your work or play done a lot faster. Even if it is not the right way to do it, if it works for you and you don’t have to think about it, it’s a good idea.

There are many things you can do varying from quite difficult to very easy to make your computer use much easier. Below are some details of things I use every day to make my townsville computer repairs work much easier.

    Keyboard Shortcuts

Computer shortcuts are commands you can type into your computer rather than having to find the mouse and navigate to a certain area of your program and perform the task.

An example of this is in Microsoft Word. Rather than having to stop what you are doing to paste something into your documents you have copied.  You could find the mouse, move it to the top of your screen, select edit and select paste. Or you could simply use the computer keyboard shortcut by pressing “Ctrl V”.

    More common shortcuts are:

    Ctrl + A – Select All

    Ctrl + F – Find

    Ctrl + C – Copy

    Home Key – Goes Home

    Alt F4 – Close Program

A list of more keyboard shortcuts can be fond here on the computer hope webpage.

    Get to know your Notepad

I use Notepad for everything. You can be forgiven for thinking Notepad is just a dumbed down version of Microsoft Work, but it is not.

Although I use Notepad on the fly to quickly make notes and stored information it is useful for a whole range of other things you probably didn’t even know about.

You can use your Notepad to do all sorts of things from shutting down your computer after typing a certain message, controlling, making and editing batch files and creating program like processes which automate functionality on your computer.

    Command Prompt

I keep a shortcut to command prompt on my desktop and in my task bar all the time so I can access it in a blink of an eye. A quicker way to access command prompt is to press the Windows and R button and type “cmd”.

This will bring command prompt up without having to navigate with your mouse.

Using command prompt is a great way to navigate around your computer and execute prgorams without having to spend time clicking all over the place.

With command prompt you can access areas of your computer not designed to be used with GUI’s (Graphical Users Interfaces) and you can very quickly navigate tree structure to find what you are looking for.
