Computer News for the Week – 13/04/16

Happy Birthday to the modern day computer

This week the personal computers turns 40. Before people were using computers in their homes, most computers were made for big companies and most people though there would never be a place for a computer in the home.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak changed all that with their Apple 1 back in April 1976 and the world has never been the same since. The money generated by their influence and creativity is unmeasurable as well as all the lives which have been changed.

Everything from how small business do there day to day work, how we communicate to how we advertise has all stemmed down dramatically from this date all those years ago.

Wonder what they would have said to the idea of carrying your computer around with you every day in your pocket?

    Facebook Boots for Messenger

Have you ever gone to a website to buy something your interested in and seen a chat windows at the bottom of the screen where you can ask the owners questions? If you ever thought the person on the other end wasn’t a real human you were probably right. They are called bots, short for robots and they are pieces of automated software there to answer your question. Some of them a good and you cant tell the difference between them and real humans, some are terrible.

Facebook has just announced it is working on its very own bot system but not for them, but for the business owners and people who use Facebook. A business like mine, Townsville computer repairs can add one of these bots to answering questions to perspective customers when I am not even actually on Facebook.

I am not sure if I will personally leverage this technology, time will tell. But I can imagine a lot of people will.

    Online Gaming and Viewers

About 15 years ago when there wasn’t a lot of broadband internet in Townsville and heaps of eager gamers wanting to compete I started a business called Cyberzone Gamers. We had 16 computers and 4 xbox and big TV screens and were open 24 hours a day for people to come in and use the internet, but mostly play games.

A few years later where ADSL become more available around the country and proves went from $1000’s to $100 more and more people were able to play from home.

Still gaming is big business. And not only do people like playing games in recent years we have found an extraordinary amount of people like watching other people play games also.
